Alternative Break Trips

Since 2007, Interfaith Philadelphia has been the proud host of the Interfaith Alternative Break Trips, a unique and transformative opportunity for student leaders from colleges, universities, high schools, and youth groups nationwide. This week-long experience is designed to inspire and empower young people through engaging in meaningful interfaith exploration, volunteer work, and community service projects.

Dialogue and Service Weeks

Interfaith Philadelphia has been at the forefront of hosting Alternative Break dialogue and service weeks for almost two decades. We have worked with over 60 colleges, universities, high schools, and youth groups, engaging with more than 650 student leaders from diverse backgrounds. During these experiences, participants have not only visited congregations representing over two dozen distinct faith communities but have also dedicated their time and energy to tackle important social issues in our community.

I was involved in an interfaith retreat this year as part of my internship with campus ministry. Interfaith Philadelphia organized the [Alternative Break] retreat, and it was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. I moved outside of my comfort zone, discovered a wealth of new information about many cultures, and made connections with people I would never have imagined possible.

As someone deeply rooted in my own religious tradition, I’ve often felt comfortable staying within its familiar boundaries. However, this experience has opened my eyes to the beauty and uniqueness of other faiths. It has allowed me to appreciate the richness of each religious group and their distinct perspectives.

This was an eye-opening trip for me. I had to step outside of my comfort zone on multiple occasions, but when I did, it was so rewarding.
